Is This the New Ad Trend??
Doing my every morning newspapers tour check, i noticed a number of ads that goes from a full to a killer page size, bad quality images, hardcore price oriented tags and sooooo many cluttered elements combined in a way that u really donno what ur looking at, what’s the product and what is it talking about.
Those ads were released today in almost every daily newspaper! the frequency was high, and i guess it will get higher very soon… Why?
Coz here’s the thing:
these kind of ads + released in most of the daily newspapers = frequency
frequency + advertiser attention for such artwork/mssg = exposer/visual contact/habit
exposer/visual contact/habit + advertiser budget = more released ads/higher frequency
more released ads/higher frequency + pre-mature market=
NEW TREND OF ADVERTISING ADS!

i guess long john addressed a very valid point that we face with the client… sometimes, u end up releasing a certain layout which u totaly disagree with for it damages the brand (similar to those ads),, but the client insists!
all of a sudden: BOOMMMM!!! the ad is doing great, generating a hell of a traffic, the client is so happy and asks you to adapt the same concept across all his other brands!!!
… “because it makes him money” :)

Samer….. thank you … that is what i have been trying to say all along….. it is not that i do not appreciate a good creative concept but it is what makes my client money adn eventully makes my agency money.
We still persue in “trying to educate the client” but if the client is thick headed they will turn and knok somebody elses door!

If these ads have become effective then we should all change our careers. I disagree with Long John. We made ads look like that becasue some of us accept to do them… but if we all decide to raise the benchmark then definitely the client will start reconsidering. As if saying why, for example, Sony needs to develop a new HI-FI system whereas the transistor receives the same radio stations and it’s cheaper therefore it will sell more!

i agree with you on that, but if we all raise the benchmark, there would be always someone that is ready to do as the client wants….

at the end of day we r working here for money, sometimes being creative don’t sell…I usually diversify in my work by keeping a mac operator dedicated for such ads…which makes him happy not to crack his head thinking creative and only apply his waseet experience in such jobs….as for other clients who requires creative work….creatives dedicate their time for them…

Long Johnny, sounds like you are confused with yourself. If everyone decided to raise the bar (You cannot raise a benchmark), there would not be anyone else to do what a client wants. And a client is the one who gives you money, the rest are either competition or crap. So there goes your somebody & client rationale.
Did you get me or am I going over your head?
